What Is Respite Care on Cape Cod, and How Can It Help Your Family?

Being the primary caretaker of an aging or disabled parent or loved one can be demanding. Even the most devoted family caregivers sometimes need time to rest, attend appointments, work, spend time with family, or simply take care of themselves.

That is where respite care can help.

Respite care is available for when you need to take a step back. It’s not permanent or ongoing. The goal is to provide care in your stead, be it for a few hours a week or for a short period of time.

What does this look like?

Respite Care That Works Around Your Family’s Needs

Every family is different. Some families may need a few hours of respite so they can attend an appointment or run errands. Others may need temporary assistance while their regular caregiver takes a break or handles other responsibilities.

As a private caregiver, I work directly with families to determine whether my availability and services are a good match for their loved one’s needs.

Here’s What Respite Care Includes

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and private caregiver, I provide one-on-one, in-home care for seniors on Cape Cod. My respite care services are personalized to the individual and designed to help your loved one remain safe, comfortable, and supported while their regular family caregiver is away.

Personal Caregiving for Seniors with Patience and Respect

Personal care can be a sensitive subject, particularly for someone living with dementia or experiencing changes in their independence.

I believe trust comes first. I approach personal care with patience, dignity, and respect. This may include assistance with bathing, grooming, oral hygiene, dressing, and other activities of daily living.

Taking the time to build a comfortable relationship can make everyday routines less stressful and help your loved one feel safe and supported during respite care.

Wellness and Daily Routine Support on the Cape

I can provide medication reminders as needed, helping your loved one stay on track with their established routine.

It’s important to remember that even though you and I understand why this is needed, a patient with dementia will often need to be kindly encouraged. Trust and patience are key in these scenarios.

I can also provide reminders and encouragement for prescribed exercises or physical therapy routines when appropriate, as well as companionship during walks when your loved one is physically able to participate safely.
